Inspiration Post: Period Beauty

We all know Lolita is inspired by period fashions such as victorian and rococo. To be fair honest, one of the reasons i wear lolita myself is not just only because i find it amazingly pretty but because i can't wear a rococo dress on the subway. I've always been a hugh fan of period movies, and i tear a bit every time i see one of those amazing dresses, with million details and perfect fit, fantastic fabrics and huge hats. There were so many different types of dresses along the years that i just simply can not choose a favourite style. Lolita has a special love for beauty and elegant things, and what can one expect to feel when you see one of these dresses but love? These are all pieces of art in movement, sadly or not, times had change and it is almost impossible to wear one of these again, tho some ladies would like to recreate the magic of those eras in some local park, and we are lucky enough to see the recreations of some of the most lovely books written, with fantastic locations and even better dresses. I can confess that i would love to live in a Jane Austen novel or at Versailles, had tea with the queen or play the piano with Miss Dashwood, and i know lots of you ladies think alike.
So this is a mayor inspiration post based on the breathtaking beauty of period costume.
Enjoy

Elizabeth I Queen of England 1558-1603

Rococo
Marie Antoniette-Queen of France 1774-1793

Regency Era

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen 1811
(one of my favourite books)

Pride And Prejudice by Jane Austen 1813

Emma by Jane Austen 1815

Victorian Era

Queen Victoria of England 1837

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte 1847
(another great book)

Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell 1853

of course there are more examples, but these are either some of my fave movies or books, if you haven't read them or saw them, you should, cause the histories are not only fabulous but the costume design is completely delightful and i can assure you you'll be stunned for days.

Spotted: like a fish out of the water

Saturday afternoons can be so boring when you have nothing to do, so i was sitting, having some Earl Gray and about to watch northanger abbey, when something came cross my mind, watching those ladies in their fantastic attires, bonnets, so ladylike and delicate, something i can truly relate to. How many times i've wished to live back then, to wear one of those amazing dresses! That is probably one of the reasons i dress in lolita, it allows me to feel like that beauty is not lost. Sometimes i wonder what people see when they spot a lolita in a gray crowd. Someone walking wearing plain jeans and a tshirt would just pass like any other in the street, but what happen when they see a girl covered in frills, colours, bows and details that the rest of the people don't seemed to care anymore for? what do they think when they see weird socks, poofy skirts and complicated hairstyles instead of the regular converse, messy bun combo?Exotic prints, parasols. Like out of a fairy tale the everyday people sometimes, (almost always though) make us feel like a fish out of the water. Maybe we do not fit in such a background. The picture of a lolita about to cross the street, or just randomly walking in a dessert avenue, it's one of the things i love to see the most.
My fave kind of picture that one where out of the blue, you can see a spot of colour or elegance. They somehow make me happy, inspirited, confident and proud to be what i am. A lolita.

here are a few inspirational pictures from my collection.
i do not own any of these

Fashion was not something you used to gain approval. Her passion was pure and unwavering. At the time, putting on clothes from Angelic Pretty and walking the streets was something of a spiritual battle, and she couldn’t lose, not now, not ever.
